THE THREE LITTLE PIGS
Once upon
a time there was a mama pig who had three little pigs. She loved them very much
but there was not enough food to feed them, so the little pigs had to go seek
their fortune.
The first
little pig decided to go South. He met a farmer on the road who was carrying a
bundle of straw. The little pig asked politely: "Could
you please give me that straw, so that I can build a house?"
Because
the little pig said "please", the farmer gave him
the straw and the little pig built a beautiful house. The house had walls made
of straw, a floor made of straw, and inside... a comfortable bed made of straw.
After
building the house, the little pig decided to take a nap in his bed made of
straw. Suddenly, the big bad wolf arrived and smelled the pig inside the house,
and his mouth started to water. "Mmmmm... bacon sandwiches!"
So the
wolf knocked at the door of the house made of straw and said: "Little
pig! Little
pig! Open the door!"
But the
little pig saw the wolf's big paws through the keyhole. The little pig replied: "No!
No! No! Not for all the gold in the world!"
The wolf
showed his teeth and said: "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll knock
your house down."
So he
huffed and he puffed and he knocked down the house, and the little pig ran back
to his mother's house.
The second
little pig decided to go North. He found a farmer on the road who was carrying
a bundle of wood. The little pig asked politely: "Excuse
me, could you give me that wood to build a house?"
Because
the little pig said "excuse me", the farmer gave
him the wood, and the little pig built a beautiful house with it. The house had
walls made of wood, a floor made of wood, and inside... a strong table made of
wood.
After
building the house, the little pig started decorating his table made of wood with
flowers. Suddenly, the big bad wolf arrived and smelled the pig inside the
house, and his stomach started to rumble. "Mmmmm... roast pork!"
So the
wolf knocked at the door of the house made of wood and said: "Little
pig! Little
pig! Open the door!"
But the
little pig saw the wolf's long nose through the keyhole. The little pig
replied: "No! No! No! Not for all the gold in the
world!"
The wolf
showed his teeth and said: "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll knock
your house down."
So he
huffed and he puffed and he knocked down the house, and the little pig ran back
to his mother's house... Mama pig was not very happy!
The third
little pig decided to go West. He found a farmer on the road who was carrying a
load of bricks. The little pig asked politely: "Hello sir!, could
you give me some of those bricks to build a house?"
Because he
called him "sir", the farmer gave the little pig some bricks, and the
little pig built a beautiful house with them. The house had walls made of
brick, a floor made of brick, and inside... a large fireplace made of brick.
After
building the house, the little pig started cooking a big pot of soup in his
fireplace made of brick. Suddenly, the big bad wolf arrived and smelled the pig
inside the house, and he licked his lips. "Mmmmm... pork chops with barbeque sauce and green
beans!"
So the
wolf knocked at the door of the house made of brick and said: "Little
pig! Little
pig! Open the door!"
But the
little pig saw the wolf's big ears through the keyhole. The little pig
replied: "No! No! No! Not for all the gold in the
world!"
Then the
wolf showed his teeth and said: "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll knock
your house down."
So he
huffed and he puffed. He puffed and he huffed. And he huffed, huffed, and
puffed; but he could not knock down the house. At last the wolf was so tired
that he couldn't huff any more.
The little
pig laughed while stirring his big pot of soup.
But the
wolf was so hungry for pork chops... he would not give up! So the wolf climbed
onto the roof. "Now I'll get that pig!"
The wolf
slid down the great chimney made of brick and... PLOP! ... landed bottom-first
into the big pot of soup... which was very hot! The wolf howled and jumped out
of the pot, and then ran out of the house clutching his burnt bottom.
The little
pig called his mother and his two brothers on his mobile phone made of brick,
and invited them for a delicious dinner of wolf-bottom soup.
The
wolf-bottom soup was so tasty that soon everybody wanted to catch the wolf and
make him sit in their soup. The poor wolf had to run far away to the deep dark
forest where he could live in peace and quiet.
The Ugly Duckling
Once upon a time down on an
old farm, lived a duck family, and Mother Duck had been
sitting on a clutch of new eggs. One nice morning, the eggs hatched and
out popped six chirpy ducklings.
But one egg was bigger than the rest, and it didn´t hatch. Mother Duck
couldn´t recall laying that seventh egg. How did it get there? TOCK! TOCK! The
little prisoner was pecking inside his shell.
-"Did I count the eggs wrongly?"
Mother Duck wondered. But before she had time to think about it, the last
egg finally hatched.
A strange looking duckling with gray feathers that should have been yellow
gazed at a worried mother. The ducklings grew quickly, but Mother Duck had a
secret worry.
- "I can´t understand how
this ugly duckling can be one of mine!" she said to
herself, shaking her head as she looked at her last born.
Well, the gray duckling certainly wasn´t pretty, and since he ate far more
than his brothers, he was outgrowing them. As the days went by, the poor ugly
duckling became more and more unhappy. His brothers didn´t want to play with
him, he was so clumsy, and all the farmyard folks simply laughed at him.

He felt sad and lonely, while Mother Duck did her best to console him.
- "Poor little ugly duckling!" she would say. "Why are you
so different from the others?"
And the ugly duckling felt worse than ever. He secretly wept at night. He
felt nobody wanted him.
-"Nobody loves me, they all tease me! Why am I different from my
brothers?"
Then one day, at sunrise, he ran away from the farmyard. He stopped at a
pond and began to question all the other birds.
-"Do you know of any ducklings with gray feathers like mine?"
But everyone shook their heads in scorn.
- "We don´t know anyone as ugly as you."
The ugly duckling did not lose heart, however, and kept on making
inquiries.
He went to another pond, where a pair of large geese gave him the
same answer to his question. What´s more, they warned him:
-"Don´t stay here! Go away! It´s dangerous. There are men with guns
around here!"
The duckling was sorry he had ever left the farmyard.
Then one day, his travels took him near an old countrywoman´s cottage.
Thinking he was a stray goose, she caught him.
-"I´ll put this in a hutch. I hope it´s a female and lays plenty of
eggs!" said the old woman, whose eyesight was poor.
But the ugly duckling laid not a single egg. The hen kept frightening
him.
-"Just wait! If you don´t lay eggs, the old woman will wring your neck
and pop you into the pot!"
And the cat chipped in:
- "Hee! Hee! I hope the woman cooks you, then I can gnaw at your
bones!"
The poor ugly duckling was so scared that he lost his appetite, though the
old woman kept stuffing him with food and grumbling:
-"If you won´t lay eggs, at least hurry up and get plump!"
-"Oh, dear me!" moaned the now terrified duckling. "I´ll die
of fright first! And I did so hope someone would love me!"
Then one night, finding the hutch door open, he escaped.
Once again he was all alone. He fled as far away as he could, and at dawn,
he found himself in a thick bed of reeds.
-"If nobody wants me, I´ll hid here forever."
There was plenty a food, and the duckling began to feel a little happier,
though he was lonely.
One day at sunrise, he saw a flight of beautiful birds wing overhead.
White, with long slender necks, yellow beaks and large wings, they were
migrating south.

- "If only I could look like them, just for a day!" said the
duckling, admiringly.
Winter came and the water in the reed bed froze. The poor duckling left
home to seek food in the snow. He dropped exhausted to the ground, but a farmer
found him and put him in his big jacket pocket.
- "I´ll take him home to my children. They´ll look after him. Poor
thing, he´s frozen!".
The duckling was showered with kindly care at the farmer´s house. In this
way, the ugly duckling was able to survive the bitterly cold winter.
However, by springtime, he had grown so big that the farmer decided:
"I´ll set him free by the pond!"
That was when the duckling saw himself mirrored in the water.
- "Goodness! How I´ve changed! I hardly recognize myself!"
The flight of swans winged north again and glided on to the
pond. When the duckling saw them, he realized he was one of their kind,
and soon made friends.
-"We´re swans like you!" they said, warmly.
-"Where have you been hiding?"
-"It´s a long story," replied the young swan, still astounded.
Now, he swam majestically with his fellow swans.
One day, he heard children on the river bank exclaim: "Look at that
young swan! He´s the finest of them all!" And he almost burst with
happiness.
THE END
Snow White
Once upon a time, a king and a queen had a baby
daughter, and when she saw her black hair, snowy white skin and red red lips
she decided to call her Snow White. Snow White grew up to be a pretty child,
but sadly, after a few years, her mother died and her father married again. The
new queen, Snow White's stepmother, was a beautiful woman too, but she was very
vain. More than anything else she wanted to be certain that she was the most
beautiful woman in the world.
She had a magic mirror, and she used to look at
herself in it each clay and say:
-Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who is the fairest one of
all?
And the mirror would always reply,
-You, oh Queen, are the fairest one of all.
The queen would smile when she heard this for she knew
the mirror never failed to speak the truth. The years passed. Each year Snow
White grew prettier and prettier, until one day, her stepmother looked in the
magic mirror and said,
-Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who is the fairest one of
all?
-You, oh Queen, are fair, but Snow White is fairer
than you now.
The queen was angry and jealous. In a terrible rage
she decided that Snow White should be killed. She called for a hunter and told
him to take Snow White far into the forest and to kill her there. In order to
prove that Snow White was indeed dead, she commanded him to cut out Snow
White´s heart and bring it back to her.
The hunter was very sad, because he loved Snow White
very much, but he knew he must obey his orders. He took her deep into the
forest and, as he drew his knife, but he couldn't kill her. He told her never
to come back to the castle, then he killed a young deer and cut out its heart
and took this to the queen, pretending it was Snow White's heart.
Poor Snow White was tired, lonely and hungry in the
forest. She wandered through the trees, until she came to a clearing and found
a little house. She opened it and went inside. There she saw a room with a long
table laid with seven places with food, and she ate a little from each one.
Beyond the table were seven little beds. She tried out some of them, and when
she found one that was comfortable, she fell into a deep sleep, for she was
exhausted by her long journey through the forest.
The cottage was the home of seven dwarfs. All day long
they worked in a nearby mine digging diamonds from deep inside the mountain.
When they returned home that evening, they were amazed to see that someone had
been into their cottage and had taken some food and drink from each place at
their table. They were also surprised to find their beds disturbed, until one
dwarf called out that he had found a lovely girl asleep on his bed.
The next morning Snow White awoke and met the dwarfs,
and she told them her story. When she explained how she now had no home, the
dwarfs immediately asked her whether she would like to stay with them.
Back at the palace the queen welcomed the hunter when
he returned with the deer´s heart. She was happy that now she was once more the
most beautiful woman in the world. As soon as she was alone, she looked n her
magic mirror and said, confidently,
-Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who is the fairest one of
all?
To her horror, the mirror replied,
-You, oh Queen, are fair, ´tis true, But Snow White is
fairer still than you.
The queen trembled with anger as she realized that the
hunter had tricked her. She decided that she would now find Snow White and kill
her herself. The queen disguised herself as an old pedlar woman with a basket
of apples, and one of them was poisoned. When she knocked at the cottage
door, the queen offered Snow White an apple as a present. Snow White stretched
out her hand for the apple and also took a bite. At once Snow White was
affected by the poison and fell down as though dead.
That evening when the dwarfs returned they were quite
unable to revive her. They watched over her through the night, but when morning
came she still lay without any sign of life, and they decided she must be dead.
Weeping bitterly, they laid herein a coffin and placed a glass lid over the top
so that all could admire her beauty, even though she was dead. Then they
carried the coffin to the top of a hill where they took turns to stand guard.
Not long after this a prince came riding through the
forest and came to the hill where Snow White lay in her glass-topped coffin.
She looked so beautiful that he loved her at once and he asked the dwarfs if he
could kiss her. As the prince kissed Snow White gently, he moved her head. The
piece of poisoned apple fell from her lips. Slowly she came back to life. Snow
White saw the handsome prince kneeling on the ground beside her, and fell in
love with him straight away.
Then the queen far away in the palace heard from the
mirror,
-You, oh Oueen, are fair, tis true, But Snow White is
fairer still than you.
She was furious that Snow White had escaped death once
more. And now the king discovered what mischief she had been up to, and
banished her from his land. No one ever saw her or her mirror again. As for
Snow White, she said farewell to her kind friends the dwarfs, and rode away on
the back of the prince's horse. At his castle they were married and they both
lived happily forever afterwards.
